On Wednesday, May 30th,2012 the Rochester Memorial School community participated in its Second Annual “Miles for Memorial School Kid’s Fitness Challenge”. This daylong, community service event was dedicated to promoting “Physical Activity” and the health and wellness of RMS students while providing a grassroots fundraising effort in support of fitness and fun.
The challenge course was open to all students and teachers from 10am to 2pm. The 2-mile loop of supervised roadways challenges students to move their bodies at a moderate to vigorous pace (brisk walk, jog, run, etc.) from beginning to end. New this year was the addition of “drop in” activities, where students could take a break from moving about the course while still remaining physically active. DJ Danni Kleiman hosted quite a dance party under the tent!
I want to thank our students, parents, teachers, administrators, secretarial and custodial staff, the Rochester School Committee, and both the Rochester Highway and Police Departments. Your continued support is vital to our success!
This year's event raised nearly $5,500 toward the much-needed purchase of playground equipment!
A final thank you goes out to our sponsors:
- Rochester Police Brotherhood
- Chase Canopy Company
- Covanta SEMASS
- Reebok
