RMS FITNESS FUN DAY, JUNE 9TH, 2016
Beginning in 2014, the Rochester Memorial School "Miles for Memorial School Challenge" was re-named, the
“RMS Fitness Fun Day”. This all-day event is dedicated to promoting and encouraging student interest in physical activities that support the health and wellness of RMS students and their lifelong commitment to fitness and fun.
Events include a 2-mile "walking course" of supervised roadways, encouraging students to move their bodies at a moderate to vigorous walking-pace, while spending time with friends. The Rochester Highway and Police Departments assist in ensuring student safety as students enjoy their walk.
With the support of the Old Rochester Regional National Honor Society, we also offer “drop in” activities, where students can actively engage in new and/or favorite physical activities, games, and sports. RMS students have the opportunity to select activities which are of interest to them. These activities are intended to expand upon skills taught in physical education or allow students to try something new.
Our event is rooted in the National Association for Sport and Physical Education standards that support the development and maintenance of good health in students throughout the United States. The goal of RMS Physical Education is to develop individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.
Volunteers for 2016 are needed! Contact your child's classroom teacher for details.
Willing and able family members are needed to support specific grade-levels and activities, assisting with the supervision of students. This event has graciously drawn lots of past supporters, and we are hopeful to continue this tradition. In order to effectively plan, we need all volunteers to sign up prior to attending the event.
